Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of the Department Communications Consultant is to provide excellent communications and creative support to department/divisions and develop strategic communications plans for internal audiences. Develops, maintains, and improves processes for managing content from all five divisions. Supports executive leaders and programs by creating and updating content, assets, and templates that reflect the professionalism, voice and tone of the agency. Serves as the primary technical and creative consultant responsible for maintaining an external web presence that promotes Human Services' programs and internal communications channels that keep employees informed and engaged.

Develops and maintains a robust intranet site and other communication channels that supports employee engagement and internal communication with all staff in the department.

Applies knowledge of content management and web authoring tools to maintain a comprehensive content calendar that promotes service integration and maintains the quality of content on the Wake County website.

Coaches and supports division representatives responsible for updating content.

•

Designs templates, reports and other written materials for use with internal and external audiences.

•

Follows Wake County Communications and IT standards, policies and procedures. Enhances personal proficiency and knowledge of county information systems and technology. Stays current with Communications and IT industry trends and explores ways to effectively apply new technologies and strategies to the work of Wake County government..

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or related field


Required Experience

•

Two years of experience in journalism or public relations


Qualification Equivalency

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
