Primary Purpose

Administer the County's websites and various digital media platforms, from both a content and technical perspective, to ensure clear, consistent communication internally and externally.

 

Essential Functions

•

Works with content contributors and other County staff to ensure Wake County's websites are functional, current and maintained according to the standards of quality and style advanced by this office.

Assists with the administration of the content management system and enforcement of the taxonomy and information architecture of WakeGOV.com

•

Works with the Internal Communications manager to administer and update content on Wake County's employee intranet website.

•

Offers technical assistance, training and consultation to content contributors and other County staff to ensure their messages and initiatives most fully impact their target audiences.

•

Works with fellow Digital Media Team members to implement and maintain new platforms and applications to increase the flow of information and usability of our websites.

Posts relevant content online during emergency or elevated threat situations, to advise the public of safety and situational awareness.

Produces and monitors analytics data to guide and inform communication efforts.

Provides social media training, setting up accounts and monitoring/administering the County’s archiving tool, ArchiveSocial.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or related


Required Experience

•

Two years of experience managing content for high-volume, multi-department sites


Qualification Equivalency

Equivalent education and experience are accepted

•

Ensure the technology that supports the County’s websites is functional and that the site is maintained according to existing policies as well as standards of style and quality advanced by this office.

•

Administer and support the use of social media and other platforms and applications to maximize the impact of our websites and comprehensive communications.

•

Audit and regularly review existing web content to ensure information is timely and effective, reworking content as needed to improve the end user’s experience.

•

Keep websites updated around the clock during emergencies.

•

Train and support content contributors within the County’s content management system to ensure the publication of content that meets the County’s standards for quality and style.

•

Assist in producing and disseminating other written communications pieces as needed.

•

Keep editorial standards for digital communications updated through web content style guide.

•

Work with Digital Media Team to formulate and implement plans for using various digital media platforms and applications as part of an integrated communications effort.

•

Ensure our sites meet usability standards for users with disabilities (Section 508 compliance).

•

Respond to citizen and staff inquiries regarding digital content and technical support.
