Primary Purpose

Review construction plans for North Carolina Technical Code compliance as mandated by North Carolina General Statute for construction projects unlimited in height, area, and type of occupancy.  Plans review must be completed in a timely manner based on staffing model.

 

Essential Functions

Review construction plans for Wake County and contract municipality projects to verify compliance with the North Carolina Technical Codes and Wake County odinances.  Assess project goals to assist clients with finding design-based solutions toward achieving Code compiance.  Requires regular contact with project owners, applicants, builders, contractors, and design professionals.

Assist clients with questions related to building, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical codes and Wake County procedures, policies, development ordinances.  Assist other County partners with review of site development issues and collaborate in Pre-Submittal Meetings with applicants and  County partners.

Collaborate with Wake County partners to design processes to meet client needs while maintaining the integrity of legal requirements established by North Carolina General Statutes and local ordinances.

•

Assist applicants and staff with navigating the Wake County Permit Portal.  Solve client application problems while supporting Wake County goals of citizen support.

•

Communicate with homeowners, builders, contractors and others concerning complaints that may be code violations.  Assess situations and provide solutions pertaining to relevant codes.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

High school diploma or GED


Required Experience

•

Five years of experience in the construction industry


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

Standard Level III Code Official Certification required in Building trades or in one of Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical trades upon hire

•

Standard Level III Code Official Certification required in remaining two PM&E trades only if PM&E Plan Compliance Inspector within two years of hire


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted

•

Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures.

•

Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to cooperatively resolve issues quickly and accurately, while building relationships with internal personnel and external contacts.

•

Ability to work independently in carrying out oral and written instructions.

•

Ability to use computer and smart phone for communication, data entry, and record keeping.

•

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
