Primary Purpose

Provide inspections and routine and emergency maintenance to Stormwater Control Measures (SCM)'s. Provide inspections, routine and emergency maintenance to Underground Storage Tanks (UST)'s. Provide support for PROS (Parks Rec and Open Space) programs, well inspections and closures, utility locates, and septic/spray field maintenance. Operate heavy equipment and commercial vehicles to perform assigned duties. Work as a member of a environmental compliance team in a highly mobile and active environment. Perform the duties as a team lead if assigned, to coordinate team activities in a safe, efficient and productive manner. Perform and complete daily routine, corrective and preventative maintenance as well as emergency work orders as assigned. Enter information on work orders including time, materials and field notes on maintenance and repairs into GSA's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).   

 

Essential Functions

Provide routine and emergency maintenance on Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs). Perform inspections on SCMs after rain events and per inspection schedules per NCDEQ guidelines. Conduct repairs to SCMs to maintain structures per design standards. Prepare SCMs for annual inspection by third party inspection firms. Maintain inspection logs and records for review by Authorities Having Jurisdiction. Operate heavy equipment and commercial vehicles to inspect, maintain and repair SCMs.

Provide routine and emergency maintenance on Underground Storage Tanks (UST)’s. Perform scheduled inspections on USTs per NCDEQ guidelines. Maintain records and logs to document all inspections. Work with third party testing agencies to conduct annual, biannual and triannual tests per NCDEQ requirements. Respond to trouble alarms to investigate and document causes.

Perform administrative duties to record inspections and attend training as assigned and required. Maintain SCM certifications for operation and maintenance. Maintain UST operator training per current requirements by NCDEQ.  Participate in training sessions for safety and other related key skill set areas as required.  Maintain continuing education credit hours to maintain certifications and licenses as applicable. Maintain electronic and hard copy records for all inspections, tests and repairs to SCMs and USTs. Use computerized maintenance management system (Maximo) to complete work orders and document time and expenses for UST and SCM maintenance.

Inspect, maintain and repair environmental assets owned or managed by Wake County such as septic fields, wells or other environmental components associated with property management and land stewardship. Document inspection and repair work for future reference and permit compliance. Work with other engineers, project managers and land owners in the performance of duties.

Additional Responsibilities

•

Respond to adverse weather events and emergency response operations as required for essential employees. Clear and remove precipitation (snow and ice) and debris from facilities after severe weather. Operate snow removal equipment, plow trucks, spreaders, power brooms, blowers, and other commercial equipment. Apply brine, salt and deicing compounds. Operate hand held power equipment. Utilize common hand held tools such as snow shovels, brooms, push spreaders, etc. Install and recover barricades, cones, and other safety equipment. Clean up and restore county properties after damage due to natural events, civil protests or other unplanned events.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
