Primary Purpose

Performs complex and advanced-level professional planning work involving Wake County's current and long range planning program including land use planning, transportation planning, historic preservation, data analysis & modeling, zoning, subdivisions, and code enforcement.  Performs significant project management responsibilities and conducts advanced level professional planning by administering the Comprehensive Plan and the Unified Development Ordinance.

 

Essential Functions

•

Performs and conducts complex professional studies, research, analysis, report writing on planning, subdivision, and zoning issues, and interpreting and enforcing zoning and subdivision laws.

Prepares reports/recommendations and conducts presentations to the Board of Commissioners, Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, Historic Preservation Commission.

•

Serves as lead staff for a specific program or function by providing guidance and oversight on complex planning issues and cases.

•

Researches, collects and analyzes technical data for use in complex planning initiatives and projects.  Monitors demographc data and growth trends as it relates to the County's performance measures and goals.

Develops planning policies that address issues associated with Wake County's land development and comprehensive planning agenda.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
