Primary Purpose

Develops and creates artwork for the production of signage, which includes street name signs, digital signs and corporate signage. Manages complex design projects including life safety, special events, renovations and maintenance. Coordinates with staff, other departments and municipalities regarding design and layouts in compliance with county standards, Federal Highway Administration, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other state and federal guidelines. Designs, produces, installs, and maintains all signage using design software such as AutoCad, FlexiSign, EnRoute, Photoshop, and Omnivex. Maintains various databases using ArcGIS software and Microsoft Access. Keeps accurate records and file structures and works with Wake County GIS for file updates. Maintains and updates Road Name Sign database and files. Utilizes various design software applications and production equipment as well as hand held GPS devices, laptop and desktop computers, various production machines including CNC machine, vinyl plotters, laminators, metal bending and breaking equipment, pressure applicators and various power and hand tools. Performs and completes daily routine, corrective and preventative maintenance as well as emergency work orders as assigned. Enters information on work orders such as time, materials and field notes on maintenance and repairs into GSA's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Performs skilled work to design, produce, install, and maintain road name sign and corporate signage. Operates complex equipment including computer controlled router, vinyl plotters, handheld computers and GPS devices, metal breaking and bending equipment, hand and power tools to design to fabricate and install signage.

Completes administrative duties to record labor hours, material, expenses, and work orders for routine and corrective  service requests, moves, maintenance of corporate signage and road name signage. Communicates with staff, supervisors and other departments as well as other municipalities to determine responsibility and most effective resolution. Records time worked in the online database (ESS) provided for county employees. Records work tasks completed with required data in the work order management system (Maximo). Maintains other reports and documents as required by program standards.

Creates files and graphics for life safety needs, including evacuation maps and FM Interact. Utilizes design software such as AutoCad and Microsoft Visio to capture information and produce graphics for life safety needs. Reviews fire safety interactive layer for accuracy and participates in fire site inspections. Maintains database integrity and file structure and forwards information to appropriate parties.

Creates specific designs for the production of signage and graphic overlays for presentation to county departments or vendors. Designs graphic representations and way finding signage for promotion to digital displays. Utilizes various design software to design files and re-format if necessary for transmission via e-mail, web or server to appropriate party for approval or promotion to the appropriate monitor.

Additional Responsibilities

•

Responds to adverse weather events and emergency response operations as required for essential employees. Clears and removes precipitation (snow and ice) and debris from facilities after severe weather. Operates snow removal equipment, plow trucks, spreaders, power brooms, blowers, and other commercial equipment. Applies brine, salt and deicing compounds. Operates hand held power equipment. Utilizes common hand held tools such as snow shovels, brooms, push spreaders, etc. Installs and recovers barricades, cones, and other safety equipment. Cleans up and restores county properties after damage due to natural events, civil protests, or other unplanned events.

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Ability to operate sign graphics fabrication equipment proficiently.

Knowledge of current FHWA, MUTCD and ADA Guidelines pertaining to signage.
