Primary Purpose

Serves as the Chief Code Enforcement Official for Wake County.  Responsible for leading, planning, organizing, maintaining, and directing the building permits and inspections division in the review of plans and on-site inspections to ensure compliance with the North Carolina State Building Code. Manages relationships with the Towns of Knightdale, Wendell, Rolesville, and Zebulon as well as Raleigh-Durham International Airport, the Research Triangle Park, the Wake County Public School System, and Wake Technical Community College to whom we have contracts with to provide inspection services. Serves as the primary liaison with Wake County Homebuilders Association to improve coordination and cooperation with the building community.

Assumes management responsibility for services and activities of the Permits, Plan Review, and Inspections program.

Works with internal and external partners to improve service to permit holders, contractors, and Wake County citizens.

Researches changes in North Carolina General Statutes and Building Code that impact our business and communicate these changes to staff, internal and external partners.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Engineering, or related field

Required Licenses and Certifications

Standard Level III Code Official Certification required in Building Trade within 4 years
