Primary Purpose

Provides support to planning staff by conducting a variety of basic professional planning and administrative duties.  Conducts general customer service and support.

 

Essential Functions

•

Reviews land use petitions, zoning and subdivision submittals to ensure completeness.

•

Provides support in the development of reports and presentations used for recommendations to Planning Board for approval or denial of requests.

•

Conducts site visits to determine compliance with the zoning regulations. Researches materials

and prepares documentation accordingly.

•

Addresses customer inquiries regarding zoning standards, regulations and ordinances.

Performs general support to planning staff.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Associate's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture or related field


Required Experience

•

One year of experience in planning


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted


Preferred Education

•

Bachelor's Degree

Planning, landscape architecture or related field

 


Preferred Licenses and Certifications


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

•

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

•

Strong active listening skills gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions when appropriate, and letting others fully state their ideas.

Excellent service orientation actively looks for ways to help people.

•

Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills 

•

Knowledge of principals, tools and methods involved in detail review of technical plans and drawings.
