Primary Purpose

Serves in a senior level position responsible for managing the county's Corporate Safety program and security operations for a large, diverse and complex group of buildings and workforce. Works in an intense and dynamic environment and is expected to think creatively, manage operating and capital budgets and respond rapidly to a constant influx of demands. Manages corporate security, including a 24/7 security center, contract security personnel, judicial-related screening services, alternative law enforcement functions, and lock and hardware services. Uses a wide array of security technology/electronic security systems including access control, biometrics, photo id, video, intrusion systems, emergency and intercom communication, networked screening-metal detection and x-ray. Promotes and maintains department safety plans, manages a safety risk professional who oversees safety inspections, fire drills and maintains emergency evacuation plans. Validates compliance with federal, state and local safety standards (i.e. OSHA). Investigates safety incidents, documents findings, identifies trends and recommends solutions, preventative programs, policies and procedures. Plans and develops safety and security training and safety and security risk assessments through extensive involvement with departments within Wake County. Serves as the Logistics Section Chief during activation of the county's Emergency Operation Center.

Develops and monitors capital and operating budgets. Develops and recommends policies, plans and procedures to support the Safety and Security program.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 


Additional Responsibilities

•

Responds to adverse weather events and emergency response operations as required for essential employees. Cleans up and restores county properties after damage due to natural events, civil protests or other unplanned events.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
