Primary Purpose

Operates and maintains the County's electronic access control system and/or physical access control hardware. Ensures that ID/Access Badge equipment and/or physical hardware is functioning as designed. Conducts regular audits of electronic and/or physical hardware inventory records. Maintains the highest level of security, access, and safety for facilities in accordance with building codes and industry standard security procedures. Reviews and approves access/authorization forms for County employees, partners, and contractors. Coordinates work requests within the work order system for service, labor hours, materials, and reports to assure documentation of records. Provides exceptional customer service. Requires local travel & available for emergency situations 24/7.

Maintains access control systems for Wake County in accordance with established policies and procedures. Provides employees with sufficient access levels necessary for daily operations. Coordinates key control and/or electronic system integrity to assist employees in access control. Ensures that ID/access badge equipment and/or physical hardware is functioning as designed.

Provides guidance in setting up access control systems for new construction and renovations. Oversees the structure and operation of the rapid entry system, locks and hardware. Documents changes or updates to access control systems. Provides administrative support for access control systems to include; establishing authorization forms, tracking, equipment and supply inventory.

Conducts routine audits of the access control systems to ensure only authorized personnel have the approved access needed for daily operations. Maintains accurate data and records of access control users and systems. Updates key records to maintain key integrity and provides maintenance support for locks and hardware.

Supports the operational effectiveness of the access control systems through programing, testing and training/guidance of staff.

Completes administrative tasks in support of program services, work order management, and special projects. Completes material requisitions and processes invoices and credit card transactions in accordance with departmental requirements and County policy. Generates tracking reports, project estimates, material lists, and other supporting documents and reports as needed. Maintains equipment inventory to include maintenance and service records. Provides input on access control system devices and responds to requests during construction projects.

Additional Responsibilities

•

Additional Responsibilities

Responds to adverse weather events and emergency response operations as required for essential employees. Cleans up and restores county properties after damage due to natural events, civil protests, or other unplanned events.

•

ID Badge system – Assists with the operation and management of the video management system.

 

Ensures the contracted security personnel properly maintain the badge system while ensuring that badges are created and issued properly. Monitors the certification process, training and daily operations of the contracted screeners (x-ray and magnetometer) for judicial facilities and contracted Console Operators for the Wake County Security Center. Participates in emergency drills in various County facilities.

 

Manages the process of collecting funds for lost badges or new badges issued to contract staff. Ensures money collected adheres to the Wake County Cash Collections Procedure and the GSA/Safety & Security- ID Badge Deposit Procedures.

•

Locksmith - Provides services of cutting, issuing, replacing, tracking, researching of lost or stolen keys, and documentation of receipts, files, and records of distribution.

 

Communicates with responding fire district to ensure correct keying is established for secured key boxes.

 


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
