Responds to crime scenes and/or the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) for the collection of post-mortem impressions. Processes hands of unidentified deceased individuals for the development of friction ridge skin which could yield an identification. Writes reports. Performs technical and administrative reviews. Utilizes various individual characteristic database systems for latent print searching. Provides tours and/or presentations on forensic topics. Achieves and maintains certification through the International Association for Identification as a Certified Latent Print Examiner. | | | | | | | | |
Essential Functions | | | Priority | % Time | • | Analyzes, compares, evaluates and verifies friction ridge skin impressions from crime scenes using scientific ACE-V methodology. Obtains and maintains certification as a Certified Latent Print Examiner through the International Association for Identification within two years of eligibility. | 1 | 45% | • | Receives latent print impression evidence for analysis and maintains accurate chain of custody records. Evaluates the quality of submitted evidence. Enters and submits submitted impression evidence into local, state and/or federal databases in accordance with established protocol for searching purposes. Conducts preliminary evaluation of search responses. | 2 | 25% | • | Testifies as an expert witness in federal, state and local courts. Prepares case files and participates in trial preparation as needed. Serves as a liaison with prosecutors regarding analyses findings. | 3 | 5% | • | Completes examination/analysis reports for all analysis completed. Completes appropriate notes and other required documentation regarding analysis. Adheres to quality control and documentation practices as established by agency directives and accreditation requirements. | 4 | 10% | • | Performs administrative and technical reviews of latent work. Evaluates case files and reports from other examiners for accuracy and completeness. Converses with other examiners regarding conclusions and offers independent conclusions on casework completed by other examiners. | 5 | 15% | | | | | | | |
