Plan, organizes and devises the approach necessary to obtain useful forensic information from the evidence. Presents and defends the results of the examination in written reports and as an expert witness in court. Utilizes hardware and applications to unlock cell phones or other digitally encrypted data. Trains law enforcement officers and others regarding digital evidence handling. Calibrates and maintains specialized equipment and keeps current with scientific/trade literature. | | | | | | | | |
Essential Functions | | | Priority | % Time | • | Conducts forensic examination of computers, other digital devices and media generated by computers to develop evidence. Plans, organizes and devises the approach necessary to obtain useful forensic information from the evidence submitted. Determines the most appropriate method for protecting original evidence and recovering hidden, deleted, erased and encrypted data. | 1 | 35% | • | Unlocks and extracts cell phone data. Coordinates evidence transfer as needed. Identifies, maintains and secures necessary equipment for phone analysis. | 2 | 30% | • | Calibrates and maintains specialized equipment. Validates equipment used within the unit. Studies data generated during examinations to ensure the functionality of the equipment and screen for erroneous results. | 3 | 10% | • | Keeps abreast of changes in the computer/digital industry to effectively examine new types of digital evidence as may be submitted by customers. Keeps current with scientific, trade and current event literature designed to enhance professional and personal growth in forensic computer analysis. | 4 | 20% | • | Prepares written reports regarding evidence analysis. Provides direct testimony as an expert witness whereby providing an opinion based on the individual's scientific judgement. Reviews casework in preparation for trial. | 5 | 5% | | | | | | | |
