Primary Purpose

The Deputy Tax Administrator is responsible for the daily management of the Department.  The position exercises considerable initiative with wide latitude for independent judgment in a highly visible role with opportunities to present and advise the Department, County leadership teams, the Wake County Board of Commissioners, media, and external audiences.

 

Essential Functions

Oversees daily operations of the property tax, reappraisal and gross receipts divisions of the Department

Assists with the formulation and monitoring of work plans and attaining Department goals

Assists with the preparation and management of the operational and reappraisal budgets

Develops requests for proposals and manage contracts

Assists with the administration of the pay for performance system and addressing employee matters

Coordinates with the Wake County Information Services Department and external vendors to develop, implement and maintain software platforms

Supports the Tax Administrator with special projects or external inquiries as needed

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Knowledge and Experience

•

Requires advanced management and leadership knowledge to oversee diverse programs. Has master-level knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with strong understanding of other areas within the Department or across the County.


Qualifications


Required Education

•

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field


Required Experience

•

Seven years of experience as an Assessor, Deputy Assessor, Appraisal Manager or high level management within local government including at least three years of supervisory experience


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
