Primary Purpose

Ensures that all Wake County real property is valued in compliance with the North Carolina General Statutes and the Wake County Schedule of Values. Measures and lists new construction and performs the appropriate analysis of the real estate market during County-wide real property reappraisals. Works independently with frequent interaction with citizens, building contractors, professional consultants, and representatives from other departments of Wake County and its fourteen municipalities.

 

Essential Functions

Measures and values new construction and alterations to existing improvements.

Participates in reappraisal process including market analysis, neighborhood reviews, and field visits as necessary.

Assigns appropriate values to parcels created through land splits and combinations.

Reviews applications for property tax exemptions and exclusions.

Prepares defense of appraisals for properties that are appealed.

Provides technical guidance and assistance to Tax Agents and other staff.

Responds to inquiries from citizens.

Reviews recent sales to determine representation of market value.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field


Required Experience

•

Two years of experience in real or commercial property appraisal


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

North Carolina Department of Revenue - Real Property Appraiser I within one year of employment

•

Valid driver's license and "safe" driving record


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
