Primary Purpose

Performs professional business consulting services, audit services, and investigative audits for all Wake County departments.  Reviews business and accounting processes and internal controls to identify concerns and issues to formulate recommendations and resolutions.  Conducts audits/reviews of both internal and external entities as requested by management or as circumstances dictate.  Supports County departments by providing independent, proactive analysis of operations, financial activities, and internal control systems.  Obtains, analyzes, and appraises evidentiary data as a basis for an informed objective opinion.  Interviews and gathers information from individuals inside and outside County government.

Consults with Departments to provide assistance and recommendations to improve business processes, migrate to new systems, revise policies and procedures, and to improve efficiencies in processes.

Advises County management about internal controls and risk mitigation; Performing reviews of external entities with mutual financial interests, and planning and executing compliance, investigative or operational audits.

Plans, designs, and conducts consulting, reviews, and/or audits of organizational, functional, and contractual activities as assigned by Internal Audit Director.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

Four years of experience in auditing

Under basic direction from the Director of Internal Audit, the Internal Auditor will examine and evaluate the effectiveness of operational, financial and compliance controls. The role of the Internal Auditor involves performing financial, operational and compliance audits and documenting and communicating results.

•

Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) skills use of data analysis tools and techniques to support audit recommendations 

•

Good analytical, organizational and presentation skills.

•

Ability to process and handle confidential matters with tact and discretion

•

Develop knowledge of key regulations that influence audit scope.

•

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

•

Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
