Primary Purpose

Performs a wide variety of medical billing functions in support of the Billing and Coding Manager and Client Accounting Unit. Processes, generates and submits accurate claims to insurance programs. Works on appeals and with claim adjudication. Trains and assists staff from various divisions with insurance clinical guidelines, proper coding of services, referrals and other billing related items. Coordinates and oversees coding information related to billing and reimbursement cycle of the Division.

Directs the day to day activities of the Medical Billing Operation, including but not limited to denial management, charge management; monitoring the overall workload of individual unit staff to insure timely submission and billing to Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance companies. Work with staff on specific unit issues, where established and coding guidelines are not being followed.

Actively works through any denied claims and actively gathers any needed information to take the proper action to ensure the claim is paid. Facilitates any appeals need by correcting the claims or facilitating an appeal. Identifies coding errors and insures that charges are properly bundled or unbundled. Understands the coding requirements for the governmental and commercial payers.

Monitors the accounts for any registration/front end errors and makes the supervisor and practice informed of repetitious ones as well as assists with training the practice to reduce these type errors.

Reviews daily batch reports and monthly accounts receivables (self pay, guarantor etc); reconciles EOBs, ACH and direct client payments.

Works on problems of moderate and complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of variety of factors.

Provides staff support through effective supervision, coaching and performance management.

Additional Responsibilities

•

Attends state coding trainings, work sessions, local meetings and attend various clinical meetings to provide updates to clinical staff.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field

Apply knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding guidelines, billing documentation and documentation standards to daily claims management.

Knowledge of third-party physician billing along with a demonstrated understanding of automated processes and claims submission
