Primary Purpose

Works as part of a team in the prevention of fires by performing fire origin and cause investigations and enforcing the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code. Serves as a subject matter expert and a liaison for county resources that may be needed during fire and emergency management operations.

Serves as a subject matter expert and liaison for county resources during emergencies throughout Wake County.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Associate's degree in Fire Protection Technology, Fire Science or related field


Required Experience

•

Five years of experience in fire services

•

Three years of experience if fire origin and cause investigations and Fire Code enforcement work


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

Qualifications Board, but must obtain a Fire Inspector Level III Standard Certificate on a timeline as defined during the hiring process

•

NC FIT or IAAI FIT Certification and the ability to obtain a NC or IAAI Certified Fire Investigator Certification within 1 year of employment

•

NC Hazardous Materials Operations Level Certification or equivalent as determined by the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal

•

Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
