Primary Purpose

Supervises and actively directs the fire department in fire, emergency management and all-hazards responses to protect life and property.    

 

Essential Functions

Directs the day-to-day operations of the fire department.

Provides incident command support, emergency site direction and actively respond to incidents.

Ensures scheduled testing of equipment and supervises maintenance and testing of apparatus.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Associate's degree in Fire Prevention, Fire Science or related field


Required Experience

•

Three years of experience in fire service


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

Wake County Essentials of Firefighting School or equivalent basic training

•

NC Hazardous Materials Responder – Operations Plus Level (NFPA 472 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120)

•

Incident Command Training (meeting objectives of NFPA 1561)

•

Bloodborne Pathogens Training (meeting objectives of NFPA 1581 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1003)

•

Wake County First Responder – Defibrillation

•

NC Firefighter Level I and II Certification

•

NC Emergency Vehicle Driver

•

NC Driver/Operator-Pumps

•

NC Driver/Operator-Aerial (NC Driver/Operator-Aerial only if required by departmental policy)

•

NC Level I Fire Officer (NFPA 1021)

•

Completion of Educational Methodology course
