Primary Purpose

Promotes Dental Health by maintaining asepsis; evaluates patient oral health; welcoming, soothes, seating, and draping patient; cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and from beneath gum margins; providing other preventative dental health services such as fluoride application and sealants; providing oral cancer screening; exposing and developing radiographic studies; charting conditions of decay and disease; participate in WCHS Dental Clinic outreach events such as 'Give Kids a Smile' and other community collaborations.

 

 

 

Essential Functions

Executes direct patient care to WCHS Dental Clinic patients by providing preventative dental treatment to include but not limited to the following: implements oral prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance; exposes and processes dental x-rays; applies sealants and fluoride treatments; counsels patients and parents on oral hygiene instruction and dietary habits; assist dentist as needed

Executes proper infection control and sterilization procedures as recommended by the CDC and OSHA to include but not limited to the following: proper operatory breakdown and set-up between dental patients; proper processing and sterilization of dental instruments between patients; proper completion of all cleaning and autoclave logs as required for accreditation

Executes administrative responsibilities to include but not limited to the following: compiles accurate clinical notes and clinical charting for patients treated; documents in clinical notes procedures completed at dental visit; status of oral health condition and any findings upon dental exam; ensures that dental procedures are accurately recorded and assigned to the appropriate dental healthcare provider; conducts quarterly audits of charts and documents any findings

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited dental hygiene program


Required Experience

•

One year of experience as a dental hygienist


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

Licensed to practice as Dental Hygienist by the NC State Board of Dental Examiners

•

CPR


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are NOT accepted
