Primary Purpose

Provides comprehensive and emergency dental care to qualified citizens of Wake County. Protects patient oral health by examining patient teeth and supporting tissue; diagnosing oral health conditions; establishing treatment objectives and approaches. Participates in community projects sponsored by WCHS Dental Clinic (e.g. Give Kids a Smile events) and other community collaborations. Responsible for educational opportunities for rotating dental students, dental assisting students, and dental hygiene students.

Delivers direct patient care including, but not limited to, necessary preventative, restorative, and emergency dental treatment; generates treatment plans; counsels on oral health education for patients and parents; assesses for specialist referrals as needed; remove decay; contour, restoration, extraction, and replacement of teeth; placement of filling materials; treatmeant of gum diseases

Executes administrative responsibilities to includes but is not limited to ensures proper documentation required for clinical notes and dental chart; ensures informed consents obtained for necessary dental treatments; ensures encounters and charges are set complete and accurate for services provided; coordinates and assists Dental Director in development of clinical activities and protocols

Supervises dental assistants and dental hygienists in delivery of dental care; supervise  any rotating dental, dental assisting or dental hygiene students

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
