Primary Purpose

Increases capacity for positive youth development by providing leadership to a team of youth development professionals implementing best practices and experiential learning programs and by implementing strategies to support parents, guardians, and other youth development professionals.

 

Essential Functions

 

 

Priority

•

Provides supervision and support through training, recruitment, coaching, and performance evaluations for a team of youth development professional implementing positive youth development programs for youth ages 5 to 18 and their parents and caregivers.

Works collaboratively with direct reports, peers, and supervisor to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate youth development programs that utilize evidence-based curricula and the experiential learning models.

Makes recommendations for key process improvements, including changes to increase equity, improve program quality,  improve adherence to best practices in positive youth development, and to improve efficiency and workflow patterns.

•

Attends youth development programs occurring during the daytime, in evenings, and at overnight events.

Analyzes program data and completes reports.

•

Monitors program staff to ensure compliance with county and state rules for safe operation of youth development programs.

Represents the program in meetings and at programs, events, activities, and in community partnerships.

Additional Responsibilities

•

Mentors and evaluates program interns and volunteers.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Ability to supervise staff, offer regular feedback, hold staff accountable, and serve as a mentor.

•

Ability to provide appropriate supervision for youth during daytime, evening, and overnight events and activities.

•

Ability to lead and contribute to a multidisciplinary team planning and implementing positive youth development programs for diverse youth and adult audiences.

•

Ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals and/or groups at all levels of the organization and within the community with tact and diplomacy. Communication may be verbal or written. 

•

Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and actively work to resolve the issues with sound judgement.

•

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills with youth and adults, including internal and external agencies and partners.

•

Ability to ensure staff compliance with documentation and reporting needs and use this data to contribute to and generate reports about program performance.

•

Ability to ensure staff compliance with county and state rules for the safe operation of youth development programs.

•

Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret feedback from clients and partners and use this information to provide insight for leadership team during program planning processes.

•

Ability to safely transport youth using county vehicle.
