Ensures the Wake County EMS System maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements of a North Carolina Emergency Medical Services System including EMS Billing; Occupational Safety and Health Administration related compliance such as respiratory protection, infection control, injury prevention/reduction, etc., and privacy compliance. Serves as an operational safety officer for the EMS System working to strengthen safety practices throughout the EMS environment. | | | | | | | | |
Essential Functions | | | Priority | % Time | • | Reads, interprets, and applies Federal, State, Local and Industry standards/requirements to ensure EMS System compliance on all levels. Evaluates actual department and EMS System members (including dispatch centers) practice and compares this practice to current policies, procedures, and plans to ensure compliance with both internal and external requirements. Develops EMS department and system compliance related documents such as policies, plans, educational materials, and just-in-time notices. | 1 | 20% | • | Audits EMS billing practices/processes to confirm compliance with federal, state, local, and industry standards. Develops metrics for EMS billing compliance and evaluates the performance of the EMS billing vendor. | 2 | 20% | • | Communicates to a variety of staff, stakeholders, and partners through written, presentation, remote (web conference), telephonic, methods to provide clear and concise information related to EMS management philosophy, EMS department practice and all areas of compliance. Educates staff members and public related to EMS compliance practices. | 3 | 15% | • | Participates in the review and analysis of equipment and procedures to ensure compliance and best practice. | 4 | 15% | • | Collects, compiles, and analyzes data related to operations, clinical practice, and billing to evaluate, demonstrate, and guide the EMS department's compliance with all standards. Develops reports and presentations related to this data and interpretation. | 5 | 15% | • | Develops positive relationships. Acts as a liaison to other agencies/departments, especially with regard to compliance related issues.
