Primary Purpose

Provides substance abuse services to include assessment, referral, coordination, consultation and education for clients.   

 

Essential Functions

•

Gathers and reviews information for an assessment including review of the case record, medical records, previous assessments, and criminal histories.

•

Schedules and facilitates the substance abuse assessment and formulates recommendations using validated tools. Writes reports and maintains documentation of contacts and services. Collaborates with co-workers and supervisor on cases. Initiates referrals and coordination to services. Performs tracking including drug testing.

•

Participates in case meetings, testifies in court, and provides consultation and education to staff.

•

Performs a variety of administrative tasks. Participates in required meetings. Serves on committees if requested.  Completes day sheets, time sheets, mileage reports, tracking forms, and other required documents.  Completes all required trainings.

•

Conducts research to remain up to date on substances, tests and available treatments.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•

Considerable knowledge of various therapies and drug interactions.

•

Considerable knowledge and practical application of advanced therapeutic approaches, groupdynamics, and crisis intervention, family and trauma-focused therapy.

•

Skill in establishing rapport with clients and their families and in applying techniques of assessingpsychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of addiction

•

Considerable knowledge of recovery-based community resources

•

Thorough knowledge of the substance abuse addiction processes, including psychological andphysical withdrawal.

•

Skill in formulating clear, goal-oriented treatment plans with appropriate documentation.
