Primary Purpose

The Medical Technologist executes specimen processing, test performance, and reporting of test results. The job performs tests that are authorized by the Laboratory Director including lab activities for routine studies in compliance with protocol, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and regulatory guidelines from the inception of the protocol throughout the completion of the database lock process.

Complies with all Laboratory policies, procedures and safety practices. Demonstrate working knowledge of appropriate safety protocol to include universal precautions, MSDS safety program, use of personal protective equipment in designated areas, and proper hand washing techniques.

Follows the laboratory procedures for specimen suitability for testing. Perform waived, moderate and high complexity tests ordered by a physician or authorized personnel using approved methodology for test analysis. Report and maintain records of patient test results.

Analyzes laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.

•

Performs, records and evaluates quality control data according to procedures including checking expiration dates and documentation of QC performance before use.

Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment.

Conducts chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, or spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal or abnormal components.

Acquires and maintains competency by participating in required training and continuing education activities before and after starting new procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

•

Position includes all previously listed duties, and all other duties as assigned by supervisor. In addition, position may require individual to work at alternate work locations and alternate work hours outside the regular Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00pm and additional days, to include weekends


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Associate's degree in Medical Technology or related field

AMT, ASCP, or NCA certification in Medical Technology or eligible to obtain within one year of employment
