Primary Purpose

Promotes and ensures the quality and safety of nursing services provided to students and families in Wake County Public Schools (WCPSS).  Provides leadership and direct supervision of school nurses and paraprofessional(s) as assigned. Assists with Emergency Shelter staffing and community events related to public health outbreaks or concern.

Provides leadership, guidance and direct supervision for the school health nursing staff. Ensures adherence to policy, procedures, protocols and all work expectations. Provides consultation, coordination, in-service training, program development and evaluation services to school health staff.

Delivers direct school health services to schools as assigned. Applies competent clinical knowledge and uses independent nursing judgment for client care.

Participates in program management functions as assigned by the Program Manager related to program planning, implementation, hiring and orientation of new staff.

Compiles data, tracks outcomes, and makes recommendations for process improvement. Participates in collaborative program development and program evaluation services

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 


Additional Responsibilities

•

Ensures own knowledge and understanding of the state and county regulations governing nursing practice and relevant specialty areas. Obtains required continuing professional education and maintains required current licensure and certifications.

•

Participates in public health accreditation benchmark monitoring and completion and in quality improvement activities.

•

Additional duties as assigned to meet work area goals, Wake County and Human Services goals.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
