Primary Purpose

Supervises a team of Nutritionists, Breastfeeding Lactation Consultants, Breastfeeding Peer Counselors, Medical Office Assistants in the WIC Program. Provides consultation to other health care providers and provides direct nutrition assessment and consultation to clients. Coordinates nutrition services, education and breastfeeding support for infants, children, pregnant and postpartum women at multiple large, urban complex and regional centers which provide a high level of health care to patients from a multi-ethnic, heavily populated county. Assists the WIC Program Manager in decision making to optimize program operations and services.

Supervises nutritionists and support WIC staff -  hiring, coaching, mentoring, and completion of employee evaluations.  Providing direction and feedback to supervisory staff regarding program operations.

Provides direct client services, nutrition assessment, certification and counseling of WIC applicants.

Contributes to business planning and programmatic decisions along with the WIC Program Manager and Leadership Team.

Conducts quality assurance audits to meet all requirements as defined by the North Carolina WIC Program Manual.

•

Coordinates program outreach events and provides information about WIC services to health care providers and community partners to improve access, promote WIC participation and provide consistent nutrition and breastfeeding messages.

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in Nutrition

•

Three years of experience in nutrition


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN) with Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Master's Degree

Dietetics and Nutrition, Public Health, or related field
