Primary Purpose

 Provides oversight for the day-to-day operations of the Communicable Disease Program. Assists with reports, trends and analysis and provides feedback to the Communicable Disease Manager and Communicable Disease Analyst.

 

Essential Functions

•

Directs, supervises and evaluates work activities of staff and provides feedback to staff on performance. Collaborates with talented and experienced team of public health professionals to investigate a wide variety of diseases and ensures efficient and high quality service delivery to all residents of Wake County.

Provides technical guidance regarding infectious diseases to all sectors of the medical and public health community.

•

Informs, educates, and empowers people about health issues.

•

Serves as a member of Performance Improvement, Professional Advisory Committee, and other committees as assigned.

•

Assures cases are investigated, treatment given if necessary, isolation and quarantine orders are followed when given and education and prevention measures are given.  Ensures cases are accurately documented in the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NCEDSS) within the mandated time frames.

Additional Responsibilities

•

 Staff Development

•

Develops instructional materials and conducts in-services to Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF) and Assisted Living (AL).

•

Supports Program Manager with monitoring and improving service quality.

•

Participates in the recruitment, selection and training of professional, technical, program and support staff.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
