Primary Purpose

Guides individuals and community partners to adopt healthy behaviors. Conducts outreach for the HIV/STD Program and implements programs in the community related to prevention, maintenance, and improvement of individual health. Provides one-on-one contact, group contact, and contact with community organizations per request, and maintains partnerships with local businesses and condom distributions sites. Creates and delivers educational messages using social media outlets. Directs individuals to services including HIV/STD testing, prevention services and other Wake County Human Services (WCHS) services. Works closely with HIV/STD Health Education Team and other outreach workers to build community capacity for long-term HIV/STD efforts.

 

Essential Functions

Conducts street and social media outreach and basic HIV/STD education to high risk populations including clubs, businessess, convenience stores, laudromats, barbershops, street corners, local gathering places and dating sites. Works closely with other outreach workers and health educators to build community capacity for long term HIV/STD efforts in Wake County and those at the highest risk for HIV/STDs. Creates a social media presence by providing educational messages and serves as a conduit to prevention, testing and other services provided by the program.

Establishes and maintains condom distribution sites, creates condom packets, maintains inventory of condoms/dental dams/lubricates/etc., and orders condom supplies.

Trains new staff, student interns, and other employees on how to be safe in working in the community. Identifies areas of need for outreach efforts and individuals in need for HIV/STD treatment and care. Serves as a liaison to the  community and other parts of Wake County Human Services.

•

Prepares reports as requested and periodic reports. Prepares for and attends team meetings. Enters data, timesheets, mileage, etc.

Conducts literature reviews, online research, webinars, and HIV/STD updates.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Required Education

High school diploma or GED


Required Experience

One year of experience in human services
