Primary Purpose

Responsible for serving as an engineering project leader and performing professional level engineering work on the Wake County Public Safety Communications Systems. This includes analyzing, coordinating, designing, and maintaining telecommunications systems, equipment, and associated circuits for the transmission, reception, and display of voice, data, and other information on wireless communication systems. Develop and provide methods for support and maintenance for the Wake County Public Safety Communications System and associated subsystems. Provide updates on the long-term (7 year) capital plan for any components associated with the Wake County Public Safety Communications Systems. Establish and maintain working association with peers in other Wake County and NC public agencies, e.g. Wake Schools, ITS, Wake Municipalities, NCLGISA, as well as appropriate professional organizations. Serve as a communications link to the IS Management Team, other IS Department work groups, other Wake County work groups and others outside of Wake County government.

 

Essential Functions

Provide senior level technical support for the Wake County Public Safety Communications Systems to include maintaining hardware and software at current level to ensure system availability.

Serve in lead role for the configuration and connectivity of the Wake County Public Safety Communications Systems following Wake County network standards.

Develop methods for the maintenance, monitoring, and assurance of recoverability for the Wake County Public Safety Communications Systems with emphasis on performance and availability on a 24 x 7 basis.

•

Provide technical support and required administration for the Wake County Public Safety Communications Systems.

•

Provide support and backup role to the Wake County Public Safety Communications Systems System Senior Manager. Responsibilities include programming of Motorola radios and desktop PC support for provisioning and dispatch related equipment and operating systems on 800mhz platform.

•

Helps establish and implement procedural and supporting documentation for Wake County Public Safety Communications Systems.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Qualifications


Required Education

•

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field


Required Experience

•

Four years of experience in public safety systems design and administration

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
