Be the subject matter expert on VDI architecture, deployment, disaster recovery, backup, and high availability. Document Wake County's current VDI configuration for knowledge transfer and recovery purposes. Perform all necessary hardware and software upgrades in accordance with Wake County IT Change Management Processes. Possess and maintain a detailed understanding of the business impact of virtualization and how to best apply it. Utilize broad technical expertise to design technical solutions for business processes and champion virtual hardware and software solutions for Wake County users and their partners. Maintain, plan and make budgetary recommendations for VDI software and hardware, ensuring that the environment is suitable to meet current needs and scalable for the future. Coordinate with vendors to ensure that the County's VDI investment is current with industry standards and tailored to the County's needs. | | | | | | | | |
Essential Functions | | | Priority | % Time | • | Design, deploy, administer, support, and document Wake County’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure ensuring a high quality, highly availability solution is delivered to Wake County users and their partners. This is accomplished by maintaining all servers, clients, software, and load balancers associated with Wake County’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. | 1 | 40% | • | Act as the subject matter expert in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and collaborate with users and other technical peers to provide virtual solutions for business processes. Actively seek out opportunities to improve existing practices, procedures, processes and implementations. | 2 | 20% | • | Provide technology leadership on assigned projects, facilitate adoption of technology and mentor peers including junior members of the VDI group. | 3 | 20% | • | Contribute to the development of roadmaps, budgets, and contracts by participating in rate/term negotiations with vendors, developing and maintaining a platform roadmap and ensuring that solutions are fiscally responsible. Represent Wake County IT engaging with vendors to support and enhance Wake County’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. | 4 | 10% | • | Enhance personal proficiency and knowledge of systems and technology.
