Primary Purpose

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Director is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, maintaining and directing Wake County GIS services. The employee is the highest authority in the Division and is responsible for developing and implementing policies, procedures and practices to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Division. Key Responsibilities include management of service delivery using a collaborative, team-based approach to achieving goals and objectives within the following areas: Property Mapping, Addressing/E911, Systems/Applications and Customer Service.

Develop and manage the implementation of the GIS Division multi-year strategic plan, service delivery goals, annual objectives, and semi-annual tactical plan • Communicate the GIS Division service vision, goals, objectives, capabilities to key internal and external partners, customers, and stakeholders • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and collaborations with other Wake County agencies, municipalities, regional agencies, state government, and the Federal Government •

 Prepare, prioritize, and manage the annual budget, capital improvement projects, and budget execution aligned with the strategic plan and performance objectives of the Division.

Anticipate, plan and manage the implementation existing and new GIS technologies and systems to meet the County's ongoing and emerging enterprise and business needs.

Training & Professional Development: Follow GIS and IT standards, policies and procedures in the management of the GIS platform. Enhance personal proficiency and knowledge of GIS, county information systems and related technologies. Stay current with GIS industry trends/expertise and explore ways to effectively apply knowledge, skills and abilities to the work of Wake County government.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related field


Required Experience

•

Six years of management experience in information systems including at least two years of supervisory experience


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
