Primary Purpose

Plans and performs technical activities to meet business unit needs and requirements. Performs responsible technical work in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the geographic information systems (GIS) databases and linkages to various databases.

 

Essential Functions

Creates and maintains database files, inputting non-geographic data, and responding to inquiries regarding the GIS system.

Determines needs of internal and external customers and responds to requests for digital data, analysis, or maps in a timely and professional manner.

Leads and supports both internal and external QA/QC procedures as well as creating quality control workflows.

•

Provides support and research in development from various GIS related files and relational databases.

•

Assists with project management, complex analysis, application development and database management.

•

Reads and interprets source documents such as civil engineering plans, plat maps, and legal descriptions, and enters required data into the GIS.

Follows GIS and IT standards, policies, and procedures in the management of the GIS platform. Enhances personal proficiency and knowledge of GIS, county information systems and related technologies. Stays current with GIS industry trends/expertise and explore ways to effectively apply knowledge, skills and abilities to the work of Wake County government.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Associate's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems or related field


Required Experience

•

Two years of experience in geographic information systems


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
