Primary Purpose

Process hardware, software and support purchase requests made by Wake County departments and partners within the appropriate timeframe for service delivery.  Ensure that procured hardware and software aligns with business needs and demonstrates fiscal stewardship.  Manage shipping, receiving and surplus processes for the County to ensure that assets are properly distributed.  Maintain accurate records for procurement auditing, asset management and inventory control.  Research and recommend appropriate solutions for technical needs when the exact requirement is not already identified.  Apply knowledge of County assets to leverage existing solutions where possible.

 

Essential Functions

Process hardware, software and support purchase requests received via Service Desk, email or phone within the appropriate timeframe for service delivery.  Maintain open communication channels with customer until the request is fulfilled.

Apply technical expertise to research and identify the best fit solution for each request, whether using an existing solution or procuring a new solution.  Ensure fiscal stewardship by leveraging existing contract vehicles, getting competitive quotes and considering solution alternatives where appropriate.  Provide input on County hardware and software standards.

Manage shipping, receiving, surplus and disbursement processes for County IT assets including tracking assets in appropriate databases.

•

Keep up to date records in procurement tools and service desk tools to ensure that purchases may be audited or researched when necessary.  Ensure that purchases are charged to the appropriate budget codes.

•

Enhance personal proficiency and knowledge of systems and technology.  Stay current with IT industry trends and explore ways to effectively apply new technologies to the work of Wake County Government.  Provide input on hardware and software standards.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
