Primary Purpose

The purpose of the Page is to perform tasks in each library location or at Library Administration in order to maintain the orderly appearance and availability of library materials. This includes retrieving materials from return bins, checking in books, sorting and shelving materials in alphabetic and Dewey order and keeping shelves in an orderly and accurate conditions. Pages at Library Administration also assist with reviewing books sent from libraries to determine correct status of retention, book sale or deselection.

Retrieve books from book return bins: Regularly check the  indoor and/or outdoor book return deposit(s) for materials returned throughout the day, transferring by hand to an empty bin or replacing a full bin with an empty bin.

Check in materials using the automated integrated library system: Handle each returned book one at a time and pass the barcode under a scanner to mark it as returned in the library's automated system; At check-in, determine if book goes to a cart to be shelved or into a box to be sent to another library to fill a request and place book as directed.

Sort and shelve library materials: Organize books on a book cart in alphabetical or numerical order; Move books from carts to shelves while maintaining the alphabetical or numerical order of the books; Reorganize and straighten shelved books as necessary.

Maintain accuracy and shelf organization: Perform shelf reading to maintain correct order of materials, shift materials as shelves get crowded.

•

Review library materials sent from libraries: Unbox, cart and review materials sent from libraries; Using approved set of criteria, determine status of retention, book sale or deselection; Set books aside for final review.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
