Primary Purpose

Conduct investigations of suspected fraud, over issuance and overpayments in the area of Economic Services Programs (Food and Nutrition Services, Medicaid, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, and Emergency Assistance Programs).  Responsible for ensuring integrity of program benefits by calculating overpayments, recommending disqualification hearings, initiating action to prosecute individuals, and negotiating voluntary repayment agreements.

Reconstruct cases by examination of agency records, budgets, on-line verification, contacting federal, state, local and third party sources as well as interviewing citizens.  Perform in-depth assessments by gathering and documenting information, negotiating, analyzing and or evaluating data necessary to substantiate or unsubstantiate allegations.

Manage work load to ensure timelines standards are met per federal, state, and county guidelines.

•

Input and update claims data in NC Fast and Lotus Notes Database.

•

Establishes and negotiate repayment agreements and address payment concerns and issues.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 


Additional Responsibilities

•

Respond to administrative follow up with District Attorney, Legal aid, Defendant's Attorney, County staff and citizens. 

•

Complete daysheets, timesheets, and mandatory trainings.

•

Keep abreast of economics services policies and procedures. 

•

Explain policies to the citizens in a manner that can be easily and clearly understood. 

•

Assist and adhere to other duties as assigned.

•

Submit, prepare, participate in local and state hearings.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
