Essential Functions | | | Priority | % Time | • | Monitors conduct of prisoners in the housing unit or during work or recreational activities according to established policies, regulations and procedures to prevent escape or violence. | 1 | 30% | • | Takes actions to subdue and gain control of any unruly inmate using force if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints. | 2 | 20% | • | Prepares incidents and other reports using appropriate grammar, symbols and mathematical computations. | 6 | 10% | • | Exercises independent judgement in determining where there is a violation of security requiring the Officer to gain control of the inmate and determine when force may be used and to what degree. | 3 | 20% | • | Communicates effectively and coherently over mobile two way radios while initiating and responding to radio communication. | 4 | 10% | • | Endures verbal and mental abuse when confronted with the hostile views and opinions of inmates and other people encountered in an antagonistic environment. | 5 | 10% | | | | | | | |

Additional Responsibilities | • | Conducts visual and audio surveillance for an extended period of time while performing cell checks on inmates. | | | |
