Primary Purpose

Serves Wake County residents and non-residents by ensuring the proper registration of births (including homebirths) and deaths (including fetal deaths). Assists with funeral home and healthcare professional training. Provides timely and accurate surveillance to the Public Health Division and/or other stakeholders.

 

Essential Functions

•

Ensures timely and proper registration of birth and death records; collects and reports surveillance information; and responds to questions and inquiries, such as those concerning filing and compliance requirements, or refers them to supervisors.

Ensures compliance with all state and county regulation and requirements and Implement and monitor follow-up actions in cases where violations are discovered.

•

Operates computer including Electronic Birth Registration System and Electronic Death System (NC DAVE), SharePoint, Email, etc.

•

Resolves discrepancies on birth and death records by reviewing, analyzing, and correcting per state and county guidelines.

•

Builds and maintains internal and external communication lines and relationships with Public Health, funeral homes, healthcare professionals, Register of Deeds, and other stakeholders.

Participates in internal QA audits.

•

Reports birth and death records to the state and provide copies to the Register of Deeds.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
