Primary Purpose

The Child Protective Services Intake - Social Worker receives and assesses allegations of child abuse, neglect, and/or dependency and responds to inquiries from the public regarding child welfare services and/or child abuse, neglect, and dependency situations with the goal of protecting children from such abuse, neglect, and dependency.

 

Essential Functions

Interviews citizens who call the report line number, fax information, or come into the office for the purpose of making reports of abuse, neglect, or dependency and/or providing/obtaining information to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families.

Compiles all provided information into a computerized database created for the Structure Intake Form (DSS-1402), including background checks and agency history checks

•

Makes screening decisions based on Chapter VIII Structure Intake policy, this includes the priority of the response. This requires knowledge and use of the Structured Intake Assessment Tools, and Priority Response Decision Trees

•

Ascertains the appropriate assignment of the report based on geographic assignments; and assigns to that unit. This includes outlying assignment units (SRC, South Central, Millbrook, NRC, West Central, WRC, SISA North, SISA South, Spanish Speaking Unit, and After-Hours Teams)

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 


Additional Responsibilities

•

Complete time sheets, daysheets, and participate in unit and section meetings


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field


Required Experience

Two years of job-related experience

•

Completion of the NC Child Welfare Education Collaborative (CWEC) traineeship can be substituted for 1 year of experience


Required Licenses and Certifications

Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
