Primary Purpose

The Adult Guardianship - Social Worker serves as surrogate decision-maker for adults that have been declared incompetent by Wake County Clerk of Court. The job provides needs assessments for clients/wards, makes decisions about many aspects of the person's life which can include medical decisions, decisions regarding the person's social network, and decisions about where persons live.  The job also provides crisis intervention as needed to address client needs and solve problems.

•

Serves as surrogate decision maker for ward in the area(s) ordered by the Clerk of Court by representing their best interests in regards to their medical, psychiatric, residential, vocational and social needs.

Provides crisis intervention, counseling, case management and referral to programs.

Ensures that all clients have adequate supply of personal necessities. Ensures that client's belongings are sercure and moved if client's residential setting changes.

Completes all state, county, and court required documentation/reporting.

Ensures all appropriate benefits are received by client.

Completes all required and recommended trainings.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
