Primary Purpose

Provides quality occupational health nursing services to Wake County Government employee population to prevent illness, injury, promote optimal health and safety to protect employees from potential harm.

 

 

Essential Functions

 

 

Priority

Assures compliance with infection prevention and medical surveillance mandates.  Ensures necessary tuberculosis screenings are completed.  Maintains the Respiratory Protection Program. Provides oversight for Mandated Employee Flu vaccination policy.

Assures that Health and Human Services employees are in compliance with all workplace safety measures required by Wake County, the North Carolina Department of Labor, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Directs new employees to complete and occupational health risk assessment. Maintains employee occupational health records and provides or coordinates all necessary occupational health trainings.

 Provides 24/7 case management for work-related bloodborne pathogens exposure for all Wake County Government employees. Provides consultation as requested from other county departments regarding employee safety, occupational health, and risk management concerns.

Supports quality assurance activities related to infection prevention, occupational health, and safety.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 


Additional Responsibilities

Ensures own knowledge and understanding of the state and county regulations governing nursing practice and relevant specialty areas. Obtains required continuing professional education and maintains required current licensure and certifications.

Participates in quality assessment and improvement activities.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Required Education

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

Knowledge of basic NC Scope of Nursing principles, principles of Public Health, Occupational Safety and Health, and Infection Prevention

Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, standards, and best practices as they are applied to workplace injury/illness prevention and infection prevention

Communicates with clients, colleagues and others through multiple channels including but not limited to email, video conferencing and telehealth platforms. Ability to communicate with clients from various cultures, backgrounds, belief systems and languages when interpreters are available.
