Primary Purpose

Ensures the citizens of and visitors to Wake County receive prompt, compassionate, clinically excellent emergency medical care and preventative services in a highly reliable, efficient, and professional manner with a specific focus on managing the clinical performance improvement process.

 

 

Essential Functions

Manages the EMS System's performance improvement system to include using the patient care reporting system to run reports for data analysis; analyzing data to assist in making clinical decisions; developing clinical benchmarking processes and reports; developing a calendar/schedule for the performance improvement process and coordinating this process with the other members of the Office of Medical Affairs; supervising the quality reviews conducted by the Advanced Practice Paramedics as well as reviewing calls using a systematic approached in compliance with the EMS System Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Process.

Manages multiple data registries and coordinates with other data registrars to develop data integration for the EMS System.

Ensures data integrity and alignment with establish standards to include reviewing data supplied by hospital registrars and other sources to combine with EMS data and utilizing data management software to complete data entry for calls such as mental health, STEMI, Stroke and cardiac arrest.

Facilitates clinical investigations to include gathering information and conducting interviews; coordinating with other members of the Office of Medical Affairs; mediating inter-organizational clinical reviews and investigations; providing recommendations for action; communicating with providers as well as supervisory and management staff members regarding clinical investigations.

Educates and mentors system providers and stakeholders to include completing quarterly and yearly analysis of individual provider quality assurance data and provides feedback utilizing standardized communication to providers based on results; developing and delivering presentations of clinical data and EMS system performance; communicating with individual providers to determine needs and providing performance improvement feedback in a positive manner.

Additional Responsibilities

•

Responds to emergencies as needed in either a patient care or supervisory/administrative role.

•

Staffs the emergency operations center (EOC) in a variety of capacities/roles.


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Associate's degree in Emergency Medical Services or equivalent degree


Required Experience

•

Three years of experience performing quality assurance and quality improvement


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

North Carolina Paramedic certification


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted


Preferred Education

•

Bachelor's Degree

in EMS or equivalent degree

5 Years

experience as a medically and operationally cleared paramedic in the Wake County EMS System

 

 

 

 

And

3 Years

experience as a full time Advanced Practice Paramedic within EMS System
