Develops and implements budgets and plans to accommodate workload, policy, certification requirements, or equipment. Reviews the work of junior staff at the lab. Monitors and maintains contracts with vendors. | | | | | | | | |
Essential Functions | | | Priority | % Time | • | Manages laboratory budget; plans, anticipates, and tracks expenses to ensure availability of funds. Manage and maintain contracts with vendors for sample analysis and supply purchases. | 1 | 20% | • | Establishes laboratory schedule and makes plans to avoiding service interruptions. Communicates and coordinates with field operations to ensure successful completion of analyses. | 2 | 15% | • | Directs lab staff in preparation of lab reports and analytical work, correspondence, records and database input. Ensures quality and service level through reviews of work output and performance. | 3 | 15% | • | Manages analysis of environmental samples for physical, chemical, and biological components and reporting of results. | 4 | 30% | • | Ensures quality of work by reviewing and approving testing and calibration procedures for biological, chemical, and physical analyses on environmental samples of water and recreational waters. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | • | Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the analytical methods used for environmental sampling of water quality. | • | Ability to operate and maintain general and analytical instrumentation, such as spectrophotometers, formulation and QC lab, preventative maintenance and calibration. Batch, fill, evaluate samples, evaluate the product and perform QC. | • | Strong listening skills to understand a customer perspective and provide services that meet expectations. | • | Good laboratory housekeeping practices and adherence to safety regulations. | • | Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats to explain technical information to the public and management. | • | Proficiency in the use of computers for mathematical, word processing, and database functions. | | | |
