Primary Purpose

The WIC Medical Office Assistant position's primary purpose is to obtain and document clients' required anthropometric and biochemical health information for nutritionists' use in providing patient care and nutrition services for WIC Program participants.

 

Essential Functions

 

 

Priority

•

Uses standardized weighing and measuring instruments and procedures to weigh and measure all current WIC participants, applicants, and applicable parents for in person visits per WIC Program guidelines.

•

Searches multiple electronic health record systems for measures and test results prior to remote WIC visits. Checks for measures sent by health providers or clients through MyNCWIC Portal, WIC group email and Measures fax and responds to clients communication method for clarification.

•

Uses approved analyzers and standardized procedures to perform the required Hemoglobin Blood test for anemia and Blood Lead per WIC Program guidelines.

•

Enters obtained measures and tests results in the electronic WIC Medical record and plots on growth charts as needed.

•

Cleans and sanitizes the WIC Lab, equipment, and other spaces as needed. Alerts supervisors to any malfunctioning lab equipment. Complete necessary daily lab reports and cleaning logs.

•

Documents and maintains supplies for the WIC Lab work stations.  Documents and maintains adequate inventory of supplies by coordinating supply needs with co-workers.

Works close with other WIC program staff to ensure clients are seen in a timely manner and provides information to other staff as needed for the care of the family; Answer incoming calls and inquiries regarding lab result; Assist with special projects and duties as requested.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
