Primary Purpose

Leads a team of environmental health technicians to protect the public by preventing or reducing the risk of illness, communicable disease and injury to the citizens and visitors of Wake County.  Trains, advises, and reviews their activities. Inspects public swimming pools, wading pools, and spas. Enforces Wake County Swimming Pool regulations. Communicates with pool operators and owners, and the general public.

Leads, coordinates and trains a team of swimming pool technicians.

Inspects public swimming pools, spas, and wading pools by enforcing local regulations. Suspends permits as necessary to protect public from life safety concerns.

Investigates complaints and mitigates solutions for matters that have potential to majorly impact health and safety.

Develops solutions to problems that are not clearly defined; negotiates resolutions that require interpretation of procedure and polices

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

High school diploma or GED


Required Experience

•

At least one full summer season working as a Swimming Pool Technician and/or prior experience working around swimming pools such as being a certified pool operator or lifeguard


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

Valid driver's license and a "safe" driving record


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
