Primary Purpose

Ensure that the residents of and visitors to Wake County receive the highest quality emergency medical services by recruiting the highest quality field staff through innovative programs and marketing. Develop the future EMS department workforce through community outreach focused on recruitment and pathway development for residents who are interested in a public service career in EMS.

 

Essential Functions

Manage the department's recruitment efforts through the development of recruitment and advertising campaigns; coordinating recruitment focused outreach to community colleges, high schools, military facilities/organizations, job fairs, etc; communicate through written an verbal pathways with applicants, potential applicants, and new hires; develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders with a focus on recruitment; create and develop new strategies to increase recruitment and the prospective paramedic workforce; create digital and print advertisements; develop recruitment media such as videos; provide input into the hiring and onboarding process as it relates to recruitment process and applicant barriers; act as a liaison to other agencies; develop and present information in both community forums as well as educational settings.

Manage the department's continuous hiring process for field positions to include develop/create, maintain, and regularly post field positions through the county's recruitment portal; communicate with applicants through both written and verbal pathways; coordinate monthly assessment processes (including, but not limited to: develop the schedule coordinating with other departmental activities, schedule applicants and panelists, confirm panelists are eligible to assist with assessment/interview processes, maintain rosters and scores; rank applicants based on criteria,); make salary offer recommendations; complete employee onboarding; provide direction in both written and verbal form to applicants; develop and maintain reports related to field staff recruitment.

Coordinate management of the department's three apprenticeship programs to include collaboration with EMS Professional Development, Wake County Public Schools, and community colleges; completing, maintaining, and updating apprenticeship program paperwork/documentation to meet federal, state, and local guidelines/requirements; attend and speak at apprenticeship recruitment opportunities; act as an advisor for apprentices; advocate for the program in both internal and external meetings; collect, analyze, and report on program specific data.

Collaborate with the EMS Assistant Chief of Community Outreach to ensure alignment of public facing image and leverage community outreach opportunities for recruitment. Participate in meetings.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Associate's degree in EMS, Human Resources, Marketing, or other related field


Required Experience

•

Three (3) years of EMS field experience in a medium to large EMS system


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

North Carolina Driver's License


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
