Primary Purpose

Monitors health status and surveillance to identify health problems, collaborates with and helps mobilize community partners and develops policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts. Enforces laws and regulations that protect health and safety and addresses public health mandates.

Manages the following public health programs for human services and has direct supervision of program leadership staff: Health Promotion/Chronic Disease Prevention, Maternal and Child Health, HIV and Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention, and 4-H.

Assures public health core functions through direct management of services, and through internal and external partnerships. Monitors community health, diagnosis and investigation of health problems, informs, educates and empowers the public about health issues, mobilizes community partnerships, develops policies and plans that support community health, enforces laws that protect health and safety, connects people to health services, assures a competent workforce, evaluates effectiveness and accessibility of services, and researches innovative solutions to health problems.

Facilitates community partnerships for public health. Participates in State public health meetings,

local, state and national initiatives to provide direction for public health and human services policies. Participates in task forces, strategic planning and public health accreditation efforts."

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health or related field


Required Experience

•

Six years of management experience

Equivalent education and experience are accepted


Preferred Education

•

Master's Degree

Public health, health or other related field.

Thorough knowledge of County, State and Federal policies governing the organization's work.
