Primary Purpose

Ensures the citizens of and visitors to Wake County receive prompt, compassionate, clinically excellent medical care from the EMS department, with a specific focus on managing the advanced practice paramedic program and its associated projects and personnel. Provides direct and indirect management, supervision, and support of EMS Advanced Practice Paramedic program daily operations and field personnel. Collaborates with EMS leadership to plan and execute health care and EMS response activities of the department's Advanced Practice Paramedics, to include but not limited to, 911 emergency response, non-emergency medical care and coordination, and interaction with community partners to address health care gaps and facilitate access to care for Wake County patients.

Manages the daily operations of the Advanced Practice Paramedic program under limited supervision. This includes assessing APP program needs, deployment, and effectiveness; evaluating and making recommendations regarding unit and personnel deployment; collecting and interpreting data to drive decision making; communicating with partners and stakeholders; and escalating needs beyond their direct control.

Supervises employees through direct and indirect methods. Coaches and mentors employees to develop both individuals and the collective desired workforce. Evaluates, re-educates, and disciplines employees when indicated, to achieve expected performance and established strategic initiatives.

Communicates with a variety of groups and individuals in both written and oral form. Prepares and presents basic level reports and continuing education. Presents information to educate, promote, and inform about the Advanced Practice Paramedic programs and its Mobile Integrated Health partnerships.

•

Develops internal and external relationships/partnerships to facilitate smooth operations. Acts as a liaison for the Advanced Practice Paramedic program with other community members and health care system stakeholders.

Evaluates APP program and personnel performance, to include investigating complaints, collecting and analyzing data, conducting interviews, reviewing processes, and determining follow-up actions.

Responds to emergencies including field emergency response as a primary care provider, as a command member, and to observe system/provider performance. Responds to major events either in the field or as a member of the emergency operations center.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 


Additional Responsibilities

•

Staff positions in the Emergency Operations Center as needed


*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree


Required Experience

•

5 years of experience in EMS, including 3 years in a Mobile Integrated Health, Advanced Practice Paramedic or Community Paramedic role and 3 years in a supervisory capacity


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

Certification as a North Carolina Paramedic or eligibility for such certification

•

Successful completion of a Wake County EMS System Mobile Integrated Health Academy, or equivalent


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
