Primary Purpose

Manages the County's year round pool program for compliance with sanitation regulations of permitted facilities. Protects the public health by enforcing NC DHHS and Wake County Rules, using tools such as inspections, issuance of permits, citizen complaint response, consultative visits, and educational outreach. Acts as subject matter expert and primary trainer for new staff and manages maintenance of main drain safety compliance of swimming pools.

Manages maintenance of main drain safety compliance of swimming pools by acting as subject matter expert for the work group. Shares insights that inform new processes to enhance the performance of the work group.

Acts as subject matter expert and primary trainer for new staff and analyzes training processes to suggest improvements based on individual trainee needs and performance. Provides verbal and written feedback to management regarding readiness of new employees for DHHS Authorization and performs remedial training as necessary.

•

Responds to citizen complaints regarding permitted facilities. Conducts investigations of complaints, including recreational water illness investigations. Works with Communicable Disease staff to investigate illness outbreaks. Communicates findings with complainants and with Division leadership as necessary.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field


Required Experience

•

Three years of experience in environmental planning, inspections or engineering


Required Licenses and Certifications

•

 NC Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)

•

 Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted

•

• Advanced understanding of EHS regulations, management systems, regulatory agencies, trends and resources. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills being able to succinctly communicate, market and sell practical Environmental Health and Safety solutions to all levels of company/business/and facility personnel.

• Ability to analyze situations, navigate ambiguity, and offer informed recommendations and guidance to resolve problems
