Assists in conducting inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal building codes, regulations, and ordinances. Ensures compliance with the North Carolina Technical Codes to promote public health and safety. | | | | | | | | |
Essential Functions | | | Priority | % Time | • | Shadows an experienced building inspector during inspections of new construction, renovations, and alterations to existing structures. Learns to interpret and enforce building codes, zoning regulations, and other applicable laws. | 1 | 65% | • | Communicates with homeowners, builders, contractors, and others concerning complaints that may be code violations. Assesses situations and provides solutions pertaining to relevant codes. | 2 | 5% | • | Assists in permit reviews to correct any items that are contrary to building code requirements and standards. Plans review must be completed in a timely manner. | 3 | 5% | • | Earns inspector credentials by attending standard courses, testing, and adhering to continuing education requirements. | 4 | 25% | | | | | | | |
