Primary Purpose

The Skilled Trades Associate will function in a variety of temporary and part-time capacities with a designated department under the mentorship of  skilled trades professional staff.

Position(s) may perform other duties in addition to the above as assigned by management.

 

*IMPORTANT* In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Fully proficient in the start-up, stop, and operation of processes or equipment.  Able to trouble-shoot routine problems with equipment.  Work consists of tasks that are typically routine with some deviation from standard practice. Works under moderate supervision for routine tasks. May seek advice of more senior employees in the same area.

Problems and issues faced are routine, but solutions are frequently not clearly prescribed. May require interpretation of procedures or policies to resolve problems.

Qualifications


Required Education

•

 High school diploma or GED


Required Experience

•

Six months experience in construction or trades (electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, permits) or government position


Qualification Equivalency

•

Equivalent education and experience are accepted


Preferred Education

•

H.S. Diploma or GED

 

 

•

Associate's Degree

Candidate must be working with Wake Tech to achieve their associates degree.
